Training Description

NEBOSH International General Certificate is a globally recognized health and safety qualification intended for companies or individuals working to international standards with regards to Health, Safety & Environment. This course focuses on the International Labor Standards (ILO) codes of practice.

Upon successful completion of the certificate, delegates can apply for a membership with Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and/or International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) as its qualification meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the IIRSM.

Who should attend?
This course is suitable for individuals who aspire to gain health & safety knowledge on how to manage risks and hazards in any area of any business. It is also particularly suitable for individuals who are interested to embark on a career in the Health, Safety and Environment.

Training Objectives

  • Apply and gain an in-depth knowledge on NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC)
  • Discuss the foundation in health and safety
  • Explain health and safety management systems including policy, organizing, planning, measuring, audit and review
  • Employ workplace and transport hazards and risk control as well as musculoskeletal and work equipment
  • Employ electrical and fire safety in a safely manner
  • Recognize chemical, biological, physical and psychological health hazards and risk control
  • Practice health and safety in a professional manner
  • Utilize safety workplace inspection and report writing

Training Program

The following program is planned for this training. However, the instructor(s) may modify this program before or during the training for technical reasons with no prior notice to the delegates. Nevertheless, the training objectives will always be met:

The syllabus is divided into 3 units, (1) Management of International Health and Safety; (2) Control of International Workplace Hazards; and (3) International Health and Safety Practical Application. Each of the first two units is further divided into a number of elements.

There are 13 elements which cover a range of workplace hazards and methods of control and are as follows:

  1. Foundations in health and safety
  2. Health and Safety Management Systems – Policy
  3. Health and Safety Management Systems – Organizing
  4. Health and Safety Management Systems – Planning
  5. Health and Safety Management Systems – Measuring, Audit and Review
  6. Workplace Hazards and Risk Control
  7. Transport Hazards and Risk Control
  8. Musculoskeletal Hazards and Risk Control
  9. Work Equipment Hazards and Risk Control
  10. Electrical Safety
  11. Fire Safety
  12. Chemical and Biological Health Hazards and Risk Control
  13. Physical and Psychological Health Hazards and Risk Control

The third unit which is the International Health and Safety Practical Application is aimed at assessing a candidate’s ability to complete successfully two activities and they are as follows:

  • Safety Workplace Inspection
  • Report Writing

Course Duration and Assessment

10 days. Plus one day for exams and one day for practical assessment.

There are two written examinations: Paper 1 Management of Health & Safety; Paper 2 Controlling Workplace Hazards plus a workplace-based practical assignment.

Material given during the training:  [DVD’s and Case Studies will be used during this course to illustrate examples of good and bad change implementation processes].

Before the course

Each delegate will be asked to complete a Pre-Course Assessment Form to determine their current level and objectives for attending the course. The content of such Form will be used by the trainer only to give tailored training that is focused on each group of delegates.

At the end of the course

Each delegate will be asked to complete an Individual Development Plan and Vocational Completion Certificate.
