A key skill involved in consecutive interpreting is note-taking, since few people can memorize a full paragraph in one hearing without loss of detail. Interpreter’s notes are very different from those of, say, a stenographer, because writing down words in the source language makes the interpreter’s job harder when he has to translate the speech into the target language. Consecutive Interpreting means translating what the speaker has said after she has finished talking. In consecutive interpreting the interpreter takes notes while the speaker talks and the speaker pauses every few minutes to allow the interpreter to relay the information in target language. Well-trained interpreters can render speeches of 10 minutes or more with great accuracy. This course is intended for Interpretation trainees/students already mastering the basics of consecutive interpretation, University graduates demonstrating great command of spoken English and Arabic as well as for those who are interested in translation especially in developing/renovating their consecutive interpretation skills.
